Abstract

We consider the process in which the radiative absorption of a bound pion is followed by photon de-excitation of the residual nucleus. The particle–hole formalism is used for the evaluation of nuclear matrix elements and it is assumed that odd-parity spin–isospin nuclear states are excited by the radiative pion absorption mechanism. Results are presented for 12C and 16O, including energy distributions for the outgoing photons for the case in which the pion is absorbed from the 2P atomic orbital.
