Abstract

Abstract Nuclear orientation experiments have been carried out on 54 Mn dissolved in gold. The results can be explained by a free ion spin h.f.s. Hamiltonian AS · I , where A / k = −0.0064 K , corresponding with a hyperfine field of 400 ± 10 kOe . We conclude that no Kondo effects are observed above 0.02 K and that the use of an effective hyperfine field and a randomly oriented interaction field is not necessary to explain the results.
