Abstract
Proton magnetic resonance (PMR) spectra at 60 Mcycles/sec have been measured and analysed for acidified deuterium oxide solutions of bis(2-amino-2-carboxyethyl) trisulphide, l-cystine -S- monoxide , l-cystine, l-cysteine, l-cysteic acid, dl-lanthionine, and l-djenkolic acid. For both natural and synthetic samples, PMR spectra of the trisulphide favour a linear sulphur bridge. An approximately linear correlation between electronegativity and internal chemical shift in cysteine, lanthionine, and cystine enable estimates to be made of group electronegativities, E, for -S-S-S- and -S-CH 2-S-.
