Abstract

The nuclear spin relaxation rate in molten aluminium chloride has been measured between the melting point and 600K. The relaxation is ascribed to the rotation of the aluminium chloride molecule acting through the quadrupole mechanism. The rotational correlation time is estimated from the relaxation rate and the quadrupole coupling constant of the aluminium nucleus calculated from an sp bond model.
