Owing to potentially grave and as yet unresolved problems related to waste management, diversion of fissionable material, and major radioactivity releases arising from accidents, natural disasters, sabotage, or acts of war, the wisdom of a commitment to nuclear fission as a principal energy source for mankind must be seriously questioned at the present time.
