Abstract

The nuclear electric quadrupole interaction parameter ∣ P/ h∣ for 51V ( I = 7/2) has been determined from NMR measurements for the tetragonal lanthanide vanadates of general formula LnVO 4. A point charge calculation for the electric field gradient V zz gives general agreement with experiment and the Sternheimer parameter γ∞ may be deduced from the data.
