Abstract

Low-resistivity (10 2–10 4 Ω cm) n-type CdTe surface-barrier detectors have been produced and measured. The energy resolution at 300 K was found to be 32 keV (fwhm) for 6.050 MeV α-particles and 14 keV (fwhm) for 59.5 keV γ-rays. The average energy required to produce the free electron-hole pair in n-type CdTe single crystals at 300 K for α-particles was determined experimentally, and a value of ϵ CdTe,α = (4.43±0.03) eV was obtained.
