Abstract

The remote and geologically complex Northern Victoria Land region of Antarctica (cover) has been chosen for the site of a major research camp to be established during the 1981–1982 Antarctic summer. The program is sponsored by the National Science Foundation.Researchers from six countries have expressed interest in carrying out projects in geology, geophysics, glaciology, cartography, and biology. Among the suggested projects are a paleomagnetic program for construction of the polar wander path in the Paleozoic; determination of whether Granite Harbor and Admiralty Intrusives are distinct groups; investigation of Cenozoic volcanics, with visits to 50 or 60 scoria cones; airborne geophysics (aeromagnetics) of the region; and fission track geochronology of granitic rocks. The deadline for proposals is June 1, 1980.
