Renaissance English plays feature an abundance of sexual pathologies, depicted both with poetic finesse and medical precision. (No wonder Virginia Woolf considered these authors the first psychoanalysts of the world.) This paper conducts a more in-depth examination of one of these dramatized medical case studies (Ferdinand from John Webster’s The Duchess of Malfi.)
