Abstract

How do the pathological effects of drug taking persist and even worsen once the drug signal is lost? We recently discovered that the transcription factor, nuclear receptor subfamily 4 1 (Nr4a1/Nurr77), regulates persistent gene expression in the nucleus accumbens (NAc) across cocaine abstinence and attenuates cocaine reward. We now aim to define the specific neuronal population in which Nr4a1 exerts its effects.
