Abstract

The mechanism of the cubic to lower-symmetry phase transition occuring around 260 K in powders of mixed hexachlorostannates has been studied by nuclear quadrupole resonance and relaxation. Me propose a relation between the effects that the insertion of a NH + 4 impurity on a K + site has on the rigid reorientation rate of the octahedral SnCl 2− 6 ion on one hand, and on the phase transition temperature on the other hand.
