Abstract

Reducing nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions is becoming much more difficult and expensive for stricter environmental requirements. NOx emission restriction could not be achieved only by primary NOx reduction methods. This paper presents results of experimental research work of NOx removal by selective non-catalytic reduction (SNCR) technology. Experiments were performed in the temperature range of 1000–1200 oC to investigate the effects of additives (NH3, CH4, C2H2 and mixture of C3H8/C4H10). Comparing additives effects of NOx reduction while burning furniture production waste received that with NH3 additive reduces 56% of primary NOx. Flammable additives can reduce up to 76 % NOx emissions in exhaust gasses. Results showed that SNCR technology with flammable additives can change traditional NOx reduction additives and this technology can be easily installed in existing boilers.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.5755/j01.mech.23.5.16331

Summary

Introduction

Fuel nitrogen oxides emissions can be reduced by flue gas cleaning or by influencing the combustion process directly [1]. In this research biomass and furniture production waste pellets were used as fuel While burning this kind of fuel nitrogen oxides in the flue gas are mainly formed from nitrogen content in the fuel. This study presents an experimental investigation of flammable and traditional SNCR additives by combustion of furniture production waste in the temperature range of 1000–1200oC. Up to 1400 mg/m3 NOX concentrations were measures in the flue gas while burning furniture production waste pellets. Comparing the effects of additives in NOX reduction while burning furniture production waste showed that NH3 additives reduces primary NOX by 56%. Results showed that SNCR technology with flammable additives can change traditional NOX reduction additives and this technology can be installed in the existing boilers
