Abstract

The synthesis of novel titanium phthalocyanines 3a and 5a bearing [2-(2-{2-[3-(dimethylamino)phenoxy]ethoxy}ethoxy)ethoxy] and [2-(2-{2-[3-(diethylamino)phenoxy]ethoxy}ethoxy)ethoxy] substituents was achieved by cyclotetramerization of phthalonitrile derivatives 3 and 5 with Ti(OBu)4 in the presence of DBU in pentanol. Electrochemical studies of the titanium phthalocyanines 3a and 5a was investigated with cyclic voltammetry (CV) and square wave voltammetry (SWV) techniques. Electrochemical studies reveal that dimethylamino and diethylamino groups on the substituents of the complexes cause electropolymerization of the complexes on the working electrode during the oxidation reactions.
