Novel type of regulatory B cell in central nervous system autoimmunity

Abstract

A recent article published in Nature introduced interleukin-35-producing B cells as novel regulatory B cells. Mice with a specific interleukin-35 deficiency in B cells lost their ability to recover from autoimmune experimental encephalomyelitis. Plasma cells were the major B cell type producing interleukin-35. The present study provides new opportunities for the immune intervention of autoimmune diseases.
