Abstract

The thermal cycling stability of martensitic transformation in (Ti54Ni34Cu12)100-xNbx (x = 0, 6 and 10 at.%) was investigated. The results show that doping Nb into Ti54Ni34Cu12 enhances the thermal cycling stability of the material. After 400 thermal cycles, the shift of martensitic transformation start temperature of Ti54Ni34Cu12 and (Ti54Ni34Cu12)90Nb10 alloys are 1.5 °C and 0.1 °C, respectively. This improvement can be ascribed to the fact that the proper doping of Nb does not significantly reduce the value of λ2, whereas improves the other cofactor conditions (CC2 and CC3) and the yield strength.
