Abstract

A novel switch-type ultra-wideband (UWB) active frequency selective surfaces (AFSSs) for radar radome applications is proposed in this paper. The switch-type AFSSs includes two dielectric substrates layers and three metal layers. PIN diodes are arranged on the upper and lower metallic layers of the AFSSs, which can reconstruct the performance of the AFSSs. In the OFF-state, the transmission bandwidth of AFSSs with the insertion loss is less than 1 dB, is 7.95-11.82 GHz, and the fractional bandwidth is 39.2%. And in the OFF-state, the maximum transmission coefficient is -10 dB in the frequency range of 2-18 GHz. In addition, the AFSSs has good polarization insensitivity and oblique insensitivity characteristics. The numerical simulation results show that the AFSSs structure is a potential multifunctional radomes application scheme.
