Abstract

Several known switch-parallel current commutation schemes for DC chopper have been designed to ascertain their comparative merits. Hitachi's chopper, being the most advantageous of them and having special operational features, has been analysed in detail. A new commutation scheme, belonging to this group has been proposed, which is superior to Hitachi's chopper in almost all respects. In particular, its commutation loss is very low. The scheme has been analysed, and experimental results of both the proposed scheme and the Hitachi scheme are reported
