Abstract

Abstract A new initiative directed toward understanding the chemistry, synthesis, and properties of non or low carbon-based energetic compositions was undertaken. Initial synthesis work focused on reactions of hexachlorocyclotriphosphazene 1, with ethylenediamino and azido functional groups. The reaction of 1 with ethylenediamine, N,N'-dinitroethylenediamine, and N,N'-bis(trimethylsilyl)ethylenediamine yielded novel bis- and tris-spiro(ethylenediamino)cyclotriphosphazenes. Subsequent nitration with either nitronium tetrafluoroborate or nitric acid (100%) acetic anhydride gave various mono-, bis- and trisspiro(N,N'-dinitroethylenediamino)cyclotriphosphazenes.
