Abstract
This paper presents a nontraditional control and operation of a STATCOM connecting the Qatar and Bahrain in the Gulf Cooperative Council Interconnection. The proposed work will demonstrate precisely STATCOM control parameters, improving the STATCOM performance at different transmission contingencies. The integrity of the proposed control system topology is evaluated through set of time based simulations by using Matlab. Based on simulation results which clearly show an increase of the loadability, reduction of the losses and enhancement of the sustainability of the GCC Interconnection can be achieved.
