Abstract

The blue colour of the petals of the blue marguerite daisy, Felicia amelloides , has been found to arise from copigmentation between a novel malonylated delphinidin triglycoside, delphinidin 3- O -neohesperidoside 7- O - (6- O -malonyl-glucoside), and a new flavone C -glycoside, swertisin 2″- O -rhamnoside-4′- O -glucoside. Recombination, in vitro, of these two petal components at pH 6 recreates the blue petal colour.
