Abstract

During saphenous vein harvesting, major damages on grafts result form mechanical handling, flushing and high pressure arterial flow. These damages initiate vein graft failure, which has important clinical consequence. For that matter, much focus has been placed on technologies to improve vein graft patency but have yet to show significant results for clinical applicability. Celastrol, is a natural plant extract known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties as well as its efficacy in inducing cellular survival. Thus, it is a potential compound that can serve as a protective adjunct treatment for vascular grafts.
