Abstract

• Novel method for skull repair is proposed based on alternative biomaterials for human skull (AB-HSs). • Density, compression stiffness & strength of AB-HSs match the skull well. • AB-HSs developed by proposed method have a broad clinical application prospect. Developing alternative biomaterials for human skull (AB-HSs) are crucial for clinical biomedical applications. Novel method with micro-lattice is proposed for skull repair and its feasibility is implemented by AB-HSs. The AB-HSs is prepared with Ti-6Al-4 V bioactive material by additive manufacturing (AM). The results illustrate that the density and compression stiffness/strength of AB-HSs match with the actual performances of skull well. AB-HSs developed based on proposed novel design method has a broad clinical application prospect.
