Abstract

Homogeneous ternary molten salt mixtures have been synthesized using novel and robust preparation method. In a typical preparation method, the ternary molten salt compositions contain two salts in common (KNO3 and LiNO3) and one additional hydrated salt. Thermo-physical properties of various synthesized ternary molten salt mixtures were evaluated by using simultaneous TGA-DSC, Dynamic Shear Rheometer and Thermal conductivity analyzer. Thus prepared ternary molten salt mixtures exhibited improved thermo-physical properties in the form of low melting point, high thermal stability, high specific heat capacity, high thermal conductivity and low viscosity, which are essential for the high temperature heat transfer fluids in concentrated solar power (CSP) applications.
