Abstract

The Drucker–Prager cap (DPC) model is useful for estimating stress and strain distributions in compacted powders; however, it requires numerous stress state parameters, which are obtained from various tests, thus requiring significant time and effort, and a large number of samples. In addition, there is room for improvement in the reproducibility of DPC model simulations with respect to realistic behavior. This study develops a simple method for estimating DPC model parameters, and it can accurately reproduce the pressures measured during tableting. This objective is achieved by estimating the onset of particle deformation using the powder compaction equation and including the shear stress that results from die wall friction in the stress tensor.
