Abstract

Pulse sequence analysis is a crucial part in the research on multi-function radar (MFR) behaviours. It is the base for MFR behaviour recognition and prediction to extract radar words accurately from the intercepted radar pulse sequence. The common radar word extraction methods are only based on the time-of-arrival (TOA) of pulses, which perform not well when dealing with the complex signals with multiple parameters changing. An improved approach for MFR word extraction is proposed. With the fusion of multiple pulse parameters, radar words are extracted by the steps of quantization coding, matched filtering and word extraction decision utilizing the intercepted signals. Simulation with hypothetical MFR signal data is presented, showing that the proposed method is able to extract the radar words effectively and not sensitive to the missed or spur pulses. The extracted radar words can be used in MFR state recognition to support the adaptive radar countermeasures.
