Abstract

A novel high-order-mode cavity-backed array antenna using metasurfaces with linear-polarization is proposed, where a SIW cavity with a TE220 mode is used as a low-loss network to excite a 2×2 antenna array, meanwhile, metasurfaces with complemental boundaries are loaded to further increase antenna gain for very high aperture efficiency. As results, a linearly polarized antenna can achieve a high gain of 11.52dBi and a very high aperture efficiency of 107%. Compared with traditional patch antenna arrays, the gains and aperture efficiencies are significantly improved.
