Abstract

The main contribution of this paper is to present a novel double-stator switched reluctance motor (DSSRM) with E-core stators and segmental rotor for high-torque applications. Firstly, the structure is introduced and the simple magnetic circuit model and operating principle are illustrated. In order to obtain the main magnetic characteristics of the proposed motor, 2-D finite element analysis is employed and the simulation results in terms of flux lines, torque, and flux linkage curves are obtained. Also, the advantages of the proposed motor are proved. To this end, an E-core single-stator SRM (SSSRM) is considered with the same dimensions and parameters. The comparative results show that the proposed DSSRM has higher torque than the single-stator SRM with the same current.
