Abstract

A constant current pulsed DC iontophoretic drug delivery system has been developed and experimentally verified using the beta blocking agent Metoprolol. Past investigations of iontophoretically delivered Metoprolol did not find any significant change in cardiovascular parameters [l]. We utilized a high frequency constant current pulse to deliver Metoprolol transdermally to an established acute hypertensive animal model. A marked reduction in both systolic and diastolic pressures were recorded. The success of this iontophoretic procedure has been attributed to the characteristics of the applied pulse.
