Abstract

AbstractThis article presents a novel meander‐slot defected ground structure (DGS) for microstrip lines. Compared with conventional DGSs, the meander‐slot DGS takes more compact size, provides steeper band rejection property and has higher quality factor (Q factor). A meander‐slot DGS resonated at 3.851 GHz is illustrated and its Q factor reaches 22.39. Characteristics of this kind of DGS are investigated with variable dimension parameters. Finally, a narrow‐band stop filter based on cascaded meander‐slot DGSs is designed and fabricated. The measured results indicate that this filter provides sharp narrow‐band‐rejection from about 3.7–4 GHz, which shows good agreement with simulation. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
