Abstract

Due to the efficiency of mitigation multipath delay spread, orthogonal frequency division multiplexing is extensively used in the wireless local area network domain, such as the IEEE 802.11a standard defined by the IEEE 802.11 standardization group and the HIPERLAN/2 defined by the European Telecommunication Standards Institute Project on Broadband Radio Access Networks. Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing is an effective technique for combating radio channel multipath fading and for high-bit-rate transmission over wireless channels and it is extensively used to support high performance bandwidth-efficient multimedia services. Low application complexity and high accuracy of the channel estimation scheme is important for the broadband multi-carrier orthogonal frequency division multiplexing system and are crucial to the performance of the overall orthogonal frequency division multiplexing system in terms of the symbol error rate. In this paper, a robust channel estimation scheme is proposed for the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing based wireless local area network systems. The performance analysis of the proposed channel estimation scheme is also provided.
