Abstract

Iodine bridges two sulfate tetrahedra in the title compound and therefore participates in unusual and novel bonding. The structure of the compound (section shown on the right) can be regarded as the result of a condensation reaction between the protonated form of the hypothetical iodic(III) acid, sulfuric acid, and hydrogensulfate.
