Abstract

This aims of this research are to describe and explain: (1) the intellectual elements which contained in Athirah novel created by Alberthiene Endah, (2) psychological characteristics of the main characters in the Athirah created by Alberthiene Endah, (3) character education values in the Athirah created by Alberthiene Endah, and (4) the relevance of Athirah as a literature learning material in high school. This research is a kind of qualitative descriptive research using a psychology literary approach. The research was conducted from January 2017 to June 2019. The source of the data is Alberthiene Endah's novel named Athirah. Other main sources of data were used, are theory books and journals. This study used a purposive sampling technique. The validity of the data was tested using data source triangulation techniques, and expert judgment, while the data collection techniques used document analysis and interviews. Data analysis used an interactive analysis model which includes data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Based on the results of data analysis, the Athirah novel by Alberthiene Endah, there was an attachment between elements of the theme, plot or plot, character and characterization, setting and setting, point of view and mandate. The characteristics of the Athirah novel by Alberthiene Endah are divided into id, ego, and superego. Athirah novels contain a lot of high-value and relevant character education content for literary learning material in high school.
