Abstract

The progress achieved in numerical modelling and loss prediction of electrical steel laminations has been made mostly due to the introduction of the dynamic Preisach model (DPM) as a tool for the excess loss simulation. Although attempts have been made to tie the DPM with the domain structure of the material, this model is in fact a mechanism to assign inertial properties to the hypothetical Preisach particles. A possible shortcoming of approaches is the fixed frequency dependence of the excess losses and the impossibility to simulate the excess losses with hysteresis models different to the Preisach ones. This paper reports on a different approach which appears to be at least as accurate as existing ones and is believed to be more versatile. In particular, it is able to calculate the transients under arbitrary magnetisation conditions as well as reproduce any frequency dependence of the excess losses under sinusoidal flux density.
