Abstract

AbstractCompared with the traditional solid fillers, liquid metal can be easily treated into small particles similar to liquid capsule just by a sonication method. Epoxy‐based coatings containing liquid metal (EGaIn) particles are prepared easily via a straightforward method, and its corrosion performance and mechanical property of the coating are investigated. The results show that a small amount of liquid metal particles can improve the corrosion protection performance of the coatings via enhancing the barrier properties, which is completely different with the bulk liquid metal. It also improves the anticorrosion property of the coating containing zinc particles by increasing the contact area between zinc particles themselves and steel substrate, and inhibiting the corrosion process. Meanwhile, the mechanical properties are improved because particles fill the defects of coating well and dissipate stress concentration with its similarity to capsule.
