Abstract

Several new antibiotic agents for urinary tract infections include β-lactam/β-lactamase inhibitor combinations with cephalosporins and carbapenems. Siderophore cephalosporins, novel aminoglycosides, fluoroquinolones, and tetracyclines are also in clinical development. Nevertheless, antimicrobial stewardship remains important in preserving the utility of the antibiotic agents currently available.
