Abstract

Gynecology An old friend has returned after a hiatus of 8 years:<i>Novak's Gynecology</i>, now in its 12th iteration. The editors and 45 contributors offer a nationwide perspective on the practice of gynecology. The textbook has been completely revised and reorganized, but the editors state that its essence is the same—a comprehensive general textbook of gynecology. The distinctive page design, with marginal topic headings, rules, and boldface type, allows for easier reading and access to specific information or topics the reader may need. References are certainly more easily used in this new format. <i>Novak's Gynecology</i>has six sections, beginning with "Principles of Practice" and "Basic Sciences." In the new section, "Preventive and Primary Care," the authors quite properly stress the importance of primary health care for women, which has evolved to include preventive care, screening, family planning, sexuality, and common psychiatric problems.
