Abstract

Abstract The folded regions of northern and southern Anatolia, Turkey, consist of Alpine structures involving the same stratigraphic sequence and manner of deformation; they are fundamentally similar to the European Alps. Post-Alpine epeirogenic structures, with which the seismic activity and late Tertiary and Quaternary volcanism of the region are related, are particularly well developed in Anatolia, often to an extent that orogenic structures are obscured.
