Abstract

This article presents a comparative study of noun class, gender, and lexicon–syntax–morphology interfaces in Niger-Congo and Romance Languages. It discusses the thee noun class systems: gender systems consisting in two or three genders, noun class or multiple gender systems, and numeral classifier systems. The article compares the first two systems and mentions that the class exponents of gender systems are suffixes while those of noun class systems may be suffixes or prefixes.
