Abstract
The notion of multilevelness is a technical term of Κ. Dajbrowski. It is applicable to Homeric studies to explain the phenomenon of the plurality of interpretations, the method used by Homer and the world he describes. For example, the scenes where the heroes smile evidence a conciousness of a hierarchy of emotional functions. The analysis of fear or courage confirms that feelings constitute a psychic world linked to multiple levels in Homer. Finally, situations of silence can be stratified on at least four levels : physical silence, psychic silence, existential silence and eschatological silence. It is significant that every hiérarchisation is a form of classification, though not all classifications are hiérarchisations (G.W. Leibniz, M. Scheler, N. Hartmann).
