Abstract
Notice D. S. Martin (bio) Do we ever stop to notice the rightness of organic designsthe broad-leafed maples that grab every raindrop they canevery ray of light so light that they're almost weightlessextending as far as possible beyond the branches' reachproviding a place for us to escape the heat & for mosses& mushrooms to flourish on the forest floor? Is it coincidence that their fibres are so fittingfor a builder's needs for fuelthat their roots prevent soil from washing away& they breathe out what we need to breathe in? Do we notice the efficiency of man-made thingsthe strength of intersecting lines right angleswithin a window frame dividing four panes of glasstelephone pole after telephone pole stretching acrossthe prairie a ship's mast rising above the seathat practical recurring patternbuilders use when framing a house?Do you think as I do of its significancebeyond that of structural design& notice heaven wink at the coincidence?
