Abstract

The photocatalytic decomposition of Reactive Bright Orange (abbreviated as KGN) with polyoxometale, phosphotungstic acid (abbreviated as PTA), was investigated in an aqueous solution with a 253.7nm, 20W UV lamp. The results revealed that the photocatalytic degradation reaction of KGN with PTA in a homogenous aqueous solution can be described by Langmuir-Hinshelwood equation. The results manifested that the photocatalytic reaction was first-order for lower concentration (≤30mg L-1) KGN and is zero-order for higher concentration KGN (≥100mg L-1), when the irradiation intensity of the light was higher than 100lx. But for lower concentration KGN (10mg L-1), the photocatalytic reaction was zero-order, when the irradiation intensity of the light was lower than 100lx . The knowledge on the kinetics of the system possesses both practical and theoretical values.
