Abstract

This study aims at developing a radiant floor cooling system using the existing radiant floor heating system. As the cooling floor can only remove the sensible heat but the moisture, the temperature of the cooled floor surface may be lower than the dew point of the indoor air and the moisture will condense on the cooled surface in hot and humid weather. To prevent the condensation on the cooling surface, the author proposed the radiant floor cooling combined with the displacement ventilation system. By using the method of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), the office building is simulated which used the radiant floor cooling combined with the displacement ventilation system and verified “air lake” upon the floor. The indoor airflow velocity field, temperature field and the vertical temperature gradient of the building are analyzed. The result shows that this hybrid system can offer a good thermal environment and the problem of appearing dew is settled as well. The internal heat sources influence airflow distribution enormously.
