Abstract

The degradation of endosulfan by ozonation is investigated at different temperatures, constant initial concentration of endosulfan and neutral pH. Endosulfan have been become problems to the environment and due to that reason this research was conducted. This research focuses on degradation rate of single endosulfan and endosulfan in the mixture (endosulfan-carbofuran) and identifies the by-products only the of endosulfan in the mixture through catalytic and non catalytic ozonation. The catalytic ozonation of endosulfan in the mixture significantly enhance degradation rate compared to single endosulfan by catalytic and non-catalytic ozonation. A gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC/MS) analysis showed the five products such as 1,4,5,6,7,-hexachlorobicyclo [2,2,1-5-heptene-2,3-dimetanol (HBH), azelaic acid (AA), azelaoyl chloride (AC), S-[2-(di methyl amino) ester (SDAE) and methyl 4-methylphenylsulfoxide (MMPS) by catalytic and non catalytic ozonation of endosulfan in the mixture after 15 minute processes.
