Abstract

The propitious implementation of the development strategy of Hainan International Tourism Island not only depends on further enhancing and improving both soft and hard environment of Hainan Tourism, but also requires continually enlarging its international tourism market. Hence, in-depth analysis of Hainan international tourism market is of great practical value for the realization of Hainan tourism internationalization. This paper employs Shift-Share Method and related data of Hainan's inbound tourism over period 2002 to 2007 to analyze the passenger origin market of Hainan in-bound tourism and its competitive position. The empirical results indicated that, the traditional passenger origin markets of Hainan tourism, like as Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, has slided into recession; Japan and Singapore passenger origin markets have an bland increasing; while Russian and South Korea passenger origin markets represent increasing tend and have great competitive potentials. Therefore, from the perspective of the development of Hainan International Tourism Island, Hainan in-bound tourism market structure remains to be further optimized and adjusted.
