Abstract

The term ' juvenile delinquency ' covers those cases dealt with by police where the culprit was under 21 years of age and includes matters more in the nature of pranks to acts of carefully planned crime. During 1959 a total of 182 juveniles were dealt with in respect of 230 cases; 162 were Europeans of whom 3 were females and 20 were Coloured males and Asiatics. . . . The most prevalent crimes during the year were (a) theft— 100 cases; (b) housebreaking and theft—35 cases; and (c) cycle theft—16 cases.
