Abstract

Asclepias sullivantii bore sterile, black, friable, carbonaceous growths on the living leaves. The growths are 2-5 mm. diam., and amphigenous in the sense that they extend entirely through the leaf. They are slightly elevated, somewhat flattened, and zonate in the case of the larger ones. They seem to be definitely fungal in nature and, if they were insect induced, .it is not evident. Faville Prairie near Lake Mills, Jefferson Co., August 30.
