Abstract

This small rural settlement of the early 5th millennium В. С, located in the upper Diyala foothills of Iraq, is of the period transitional between Ubaid II and Ubaid III in southern Iraq. The best preserved of the four strata had three architectural units, each of a tripartite plan with central walled court and flanking rooms. Like the contemporary ceramics of nearby Tell Abada, those of Tell Rashid exhibit stylistic relations with those of both northern and southern Iraq and adjacent areas.
