formed recent Twenty-First Congress of Communist Party that by 1964 the U.S.S.R. will have shortest working week in world with a simultaneous rise in standard of living. By end of current Seven Year Plan, he asserted, majority of Soviet workers will have a five day work week with a six or seven hour day.' How will Soviet citizen use his increased leisure time? What does he conceive to be ideal uses of leisure? In what ways are his attitudes peculiarly Soviet? What problems will grant of increased leisure time raise for regime? I shall attempt to suggest general answers to these questions on basis of impressions gathered in course of a year's residence in U.S.S.R. So little has been written on subject of leisure in U.S.S.R. that even such answers
