Abstract

Ascus cytoplasm of Rosellinia buxi is convoluted with broad areas containing nuclei separated by isthmus-like connections. Ascospores are formed singly or in pairs in broad areas. Ascospores are at first uninucleate, becoming binucleate via mitosis. Maturing ascospores are uninucleate after disintegration of one of their two nuclei. Aspects of the conidial state are illustrated.The flabelliform conidial state of a Xylaria species, probably X. castorea, is illustrated and discussed.
