Notes on Asiatic and New Guinea Orchidaceae

Abstract

Summary. Two new taxa, Peristylus superanthusJ. J. Wood and Bulbophyllum ambrosia (Hance) Schltr. subsp. nepalensis J. J. Wood, from Nepal, and two varieties of Dendrobium subclausum Rolfe from Papua New Guinea are described. Kuhlhasseltia halconensis J. J. Wood is proposed as a new name for Herpysma merrillii Ames. Five new combinations, viz. Peristylus nematocaulon (J. D. Hook.) J. J. Wood, Anoectochilus luzonensis (Ames) J. J. Wood, Glomera pendulata (P. Royen) J. J. Wood, Bulbophyllum masonii (Senghas) J. J. Wood and Flickingeria puncticulosa (J. J. Sm.) J. J. Wood are made. The synonymy and infraspecific variability of Dendrobium subclausum is discussed and two new varieties proposed here. Pedilochilus oreadum P. Royen is considered conspecific with P. obovatum J. J. Sm. A considerable number of Asiatic and New Guinea orchids are received at Kew each year for identification. The following taxonomic notes have accumulated as a result of these studies on both living and preserved material. The genera follow the modified Schlechter sequence used in the Kew Herbarium.
